Harris' diving catch helps Nats hang on for win over Mets
[May 16, 2008] Jason Bergmann never got a chance to plead his case to stay in the game after seven shutout innings.

No matter. The pinch hitter who replaced him made Bergmann a winner.

Willie Harris helped put Washington ahead with a key sacrifice bunt, then saved the slick-fielding Nationals by making a sensational catch in the ninth inning of Thursday's 1-0 victory over the New York Mets.

Cavs hold on for win over Yellow JacketsCavs hold on for win over Yellow Jackets
[May 16, 2008] In the first 16 starts of his collegiate career, most of which came last season, Matt Packer had never managed to retire a batter in the seventh inning.
That changed Thursday night at Davenport Field in what could easily have been Virginia’s most important contest to date.
Packer hurled a career-best seven innings, scattering just five hits against Georgia Tech’s potent offense, as Virginia won 4-2 in the opening game of the series.

Kazmir, AL East-leading Rays shut down YankeesKazmir, AL East-leading Rays shut down Yankees
[May 16, 2008] Music blared in the Tampa Bay clubhouse and four large, flat-screen televisions mounted around a column in the middle of the room were tuned to the same in-house channel displaying the AL East standings.

The surprising Rays are on top, and the sputtering Yankees are on the bottom. No one was gloating, though.

"I want us to celebrate hard for 30 minutes postgame and then move on. I want us to dwell on a loss for no more than 30 minutes," manager Joe Maddon said after Thursday's 5-2 victory dumped New York into the cellar.
